BREAST LIFTING
Candidates for this surgery are women that are in general satisfied with the size of their breast, however they are flaccid and "fallen", or they are unsatisfied with the fact that the nipples appear down. This can be due to loss of elasticity of the skin, provoked by weight changes, pregnancy, breast-feeding or just by aging and the action of gravity.
Some women prefer to undergo this surgery before they have children, preferring to spend their adult life with the new breasts and to treat any alterations in the future. This surgery doesn't interfere with the possibility of breastfeeding because the milk ducts are left intact.
The objective of this surgery is to elevate and to remodel the fallen breasts, removing the excess skin and repositioning the nipples. The breast lifting will reestablish a younger and sensual appearance. There are women whose breasts grow differently, one being larger than the other and, in these cases, an implant of silicon can be placed on only one side to equal the size and at the same time, during the lifting, to put the breast in its normal position.
The incisions for breast lifting vary according to three different techniques; "Inverted T" uses an incision around the areola, one in the furrow below the breast and a third vertical incision joining the two. The second is the "vertical" technique, with two incisions, one around the areola and the other vertical; the third is the "periareolar" technique, which simply uses an incision around the areola. The choice of the appropriate technique varies in agreement with the breast type and with the desired form. More incisions, in general mean that a better form may be achieved and that should be discussed with the doctor during the consultation.
The surgery lasts from approximately two to three hours and the anesthesia can be epidural with sedation, or general anesthesia according to the case. Complications are rare.
Recovery time is short, and the patient may return to work in one to two weeks. Stressful physical activities can be made after one month. The disappearance of the scars can take from several months to one year.
